This room's problems

We do most of our living in this room. The kids play here, the TV is in here, the fireplace is here, the stereo is here... It's a huge room, and I try to keep my sanity periodically by mentally separating it into two rooms. If I can sweep all of the toys onto the right side and keep the left side looking relatively neat, then I can sit on the couch and watch TV with my back to the mess and pretend it doesn't exist.

Still, it would be preferable to really get it under control! We have way too much STUFF. I've never gone through the kids' toys and given away things they've outgrown, so the new toys just pile onto the old toys.

Updates

02/25/06: We got rid of a LOT of stuff! I'm considering this room DONE, as far as it being neat and liveable. I do still have to do something about the office area in the far corner, and other miscellaneous clutter (CD's DVD's, Neil's books, etc.). Hopefully I'll have made some progress on that before the *next* party (Eamonn's birthday in April).

02/19/06: THe kids and I spent a lot of time yesterday going through some old toys. We've still got a LOT more to do, but I'm seeing some improvement. I've also spent the last week putting away books & videos from my book store.
